Dulwich Picture Gallery Art Clubs

Putting this out there because I am not sure most families know that the fabulous Dulwich Picture Gallery runs popular art clubs through the winter for kids aged 7 to 18. The gallery is on Gallery Road, London SE21 7AD and transport links are brilliant. Free parking is available on Gallery Road.

The clubs still open to joiners (as at 26 October 2015) are:

woollen_portraits

Title – Woollen Portraits.
Age range – 7 to 10.
Start date – 13 Jan 2016
End date – 10 Feb 2016
Time – 4.30pm to 6pm weekly on Wednesdays.
Blurb – Explore 17th Century portrait painting using traditional painting and felt making techniques to help you create a unique self-portrait inspired by the Dutch artist Van Dyck. Learn to fuse woollen fibres to form solid pieces of colourful felt, and use your hand-made materials to compose 2D and 3D works embellished with needle felting and bead work. With artist Erica Parrett.

Title – M C Escher: Tessellate.
Age range – 11 to 14.
Start date – 12 Nov 2015
End date – 10 Dec 2015
Time – 4.30pm to 6pm weekly on Thursdays.
Blurb – Explore pattern making and broaden your experience with a wide range of materials, including coloured pen, paint and paper folding. Learn about tessellations and create fantastical drawings inspired by The Amazing World of M. C. Escher. Experiment with 2D surfaces and learn how to transfer your drawings into unique 3D designs bringing your tessellations to life. With artist Jo Lewis.

Title – M C Escher: Drawing in Monochrome.
Age range – 15 to 18.
Start date – 10 Nov 2015
End date – 8 Dec 2015
Time – 4.30pm to 6pm weekly on Tuesdays.
Blurb – Learn about tonal ranges using white and black mediums, such as pencil, charcoal, and ink to create realistic drawings inspired Escher. Working from still life as well as paintings in the collection you will create Escher–like compositions. At the end of this course you will have gained an understanding of traditional drawing mediums and techniques. With artist Liz Charsley–Jory.
