If it’s good enough for Elon Musk…

I read a fascinating article today on the unschooling approach of Elon Musk, the man behind PayPal, SpaceX, Tesla Motors, Hyperloop, SolarCity and OpenAl.
I don’t want to summarise the article as a shortened form will do it no justice, however, I liked this bit:

Having his kids with him for the majority of the day and observing that they could learn in a self-directed manner allowed him to determine that with the way schools are currently designed, no school could accommodate his children.

and many other bits, such as:

Which scenario sounds optimal? Sitting in a classroom learning about facts in a passive, recipient manner day after day to later be tested and graded on, or freely developing one’s curiosity and experiencing learning in a way that is both meaningful and relevant to the individual? Which is more significant for living in the Digital Age?

Obviously, I don’t have a billionth of his wealth but a lot of us know that incredible wealth is not needed to allow children to follow their passion, away from the standardised methods and rigid curricula used in traditional schools. All we need is courage to trust and believe that our children will find their paths.

If you are curious and fancy reading the full article, is is HERE.
